Patal Bhuvaneshwar
Patal Bhuvaneshwar is a Shiva cave shrine underground, entered by a tunnel and a dark, tight water-filled passage.
The name Patal Bhuvaneshwar can be read as Shiva's shrine beneath the earth. This cave temple is about 91 km from Pithoragarh, 14 km north of Gangolihat.
Getting in is part of the experience: a tunnel opens into the cave, and a tight, unlit channel of water follows. Pilgrims come here, as do visitors with an interest in caves.
It is far from town, so give it a day of its own and ask us about the road before setting off.
